Bridgeport Cafe is a healthy alternative to traditional fast-food establishments that are overly prevalent in our urban neighborhoods. Not only does the restaurant provide fresh hand-crafted sandwiches, soups, wraps, salads and other healthier options, it sells fresh locally-grown produce. Families on fixed incomes can purchase the produce using their EBT cards (food stamp cards).
By establishing Bridgeport Cafe, Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. (BBC) aims to complete the cycle of field-to-plate by aligning its retail, health & wellness, and economic development efforts. These initiatives include community gardens, the Urban Agriculture Innovation Zone, the Neighborhood Landscaping Initiative, and Green City Growers Hydroponic Greenhouse. Bridgeport Cafe is just one component of BBC’s MC2 Food Access Initiative. In addition to the Cafe and Mobile market, BBC simultaneously developed CornUcopia Place.
